Modern Foreign Languages

‘One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way.’

Frank Smith

“Knowledge of languages is the doorway to wisdom” Roger Bacon

At Aston and Cote Primary School, we recognise the value of learning other languages and the benefits this brings in valuing and appreciating other cultures. We aim to help our children become enthusiastic, language learners and provide lessons that are engaging and that foster positive attitudes to other cultures. Children learn French by listening, reading and speaking the language, developing good foundations for further learning as they move on from our school.

All the children have a French lesson each week (following the Language Angels scheme) learning about everyday topics and the French way of life. Children in FS and KS1 learn French songs, games and familiar language like telling others their name, how they are feeling, numbers to 10. We try to incorporate the language we have learnt into other areas of the curriculum and general school routines.

Further details of our French curriculum are available in the curriculum overviews on the class web page.
