At our Voluntary Controlled school, Religion and Worldviews is taught through the Locally Agreed Syllabus and enriched with meaningful, creative experiences that bring learning to life. Our teaching is rooted in our school vision:
“Aspiring to be the people God created us to be by growing the talents He gave us.”
Pupils explore Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Humanism, learning both about and from these faiths and worldviews. They ask big questions, reflect on beliefs and values, and develop respect and understanding for the diversity of the world around them.
Learning is brought alive through creative approaches such as drama, art, cooking, discussion and enquiry, alongside visits to places of worship and welcoming visitors from different faith communities into school. Handling artefacts, tasting traditional foods, creating artwork and acting out stories and beliefs help children make meaningful connections between their learning and real life.
Through Religion and Worldviews, pupils develop empathy, curiosity, critical thinking and a deep appreciation of how faith and belief shape people, communities and society, preparing them to live well alongside others in modern Britain.
We have very strong links with St. James’ Church so, as well as visiting the church for acts of worship and for our Easter Trail, we use the church as a teaching resource whenever possible. Reverend Janice, our vicar, is a regular visitor in school, both to lead acts of worship and to talk about her role in the church as part of the R.E. curriculum.
Although parents are entitled to withdraw their children from Religious Education, we encourage all children to participate in this very important area of the curriculum.
