Services in Church

At Aston and Cote Church of England School, we are proud of our strong and meaningful links with St James’ Church, which is located next door to the school. This close relationship enriches our school life and provides valuable opportunities for worship, reflection and community connection. Reverend Janice Collier, the vicar, plays an active role in school life and leads whole school Collective Worship each week.

Throughout the year, we warmly welcome families to join us in church as we come together to celebrate key moments in the Christian calendar. These services are an important part of our shared life, helping children to understand and experience the rhythm of the Christian year. In Reception, children also take part in an educational visit to the church, where they explore the building and learn about its key features, helping to build early understanding and familiarity.

Our annual Harvest Festival Service, led by Year 6, is a joyful and informal celebration of God’s creation. It is also a time to reflect on the needs of others, with families invited to donate food to support the work of Besom, a Christian charity.

At Christmas, our Carol Service, led by Year 5, provides a special opportunity to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. Through a blend of traditional carols, newer songs, readings and prayers, the story of Jesus’ birth is shared in a thoughtful and engaging way.

We also mark Easter, the most important time in the Christian calendar, with a special Holy Communion service in church. During this service, Year 4 pupils support Reverend Janice in leading worship, helping them to engage more deeply with the significance of this celebration.

Our Leavers’ Service is a meaningful occasion, offering time for reflection, thanksgiving and looking ahead as Year 6 pupils prepare for the next stage of their journey.

In addition to these services, pupils spend time in the church and its burial ground throughout the year, taking part in activities such as Star and Easter Trails, Prayer Spaces led by local volunteers, and quiet opportunities for stillness and reflection. These experiences further support the spiritual life of our school, helping children to connect, reflect and grow.
