Welcome to Glanvill Class!

 Mrs Farrow - Class Teacher

  Mrs Rice - Teaching Assistant

Glanvill Class is home to Year 5 and to Mrs Farrow, our teacher. Mrs Rice is our Teaching Assistant and she is with us Monday to Thursday.

In Glanvill, our learning is challenging, energetic and fun, with a strong focus on being creative and making connections across curriculums and topics. We support children in developing their skills and understanding and encourage independent thinking.

Together we study two whole class novels each half-term linked to our termly topics. We also have a class book that we listen to during story time.

In Glanvill, we love learning and our classroom is a vibrant and exciting environment in which to spend our days. We aim for all children to feel safe and happy, as well as supporting them to become curious and independent learners.

Our Learning Journey

Summer 1

This term, Year 5 pupils will be exploring a vibrant and engaging topic centred around our “Carnival of Colour.” This theme will provide a rich opportunity for children to develop their knowledge of the wider world while expressing creativity across subjects.

In Geography, we will be focusing on the continent of South America. Pupils will learn to locate the continent on a world map, identify the nearest oceans, and explore both the human and physical features of the region. They will also compare daily life in countries such as Brazil and Peru with life in the UK, helping them to understand similarities and differences in culture, environment, and lifestyle.

As part of our learning, the children will be tasting and preparing a variety of dishes inspired by Mexico, including making fresh salsa and tortillas.

In Music, pupils are learning traditional songs from Kenya, developing their rhythm, listening skills, and appreciation of music from different cultures. In addition, they will be taking part in maypole dancing, building coordination and teamwork while engaging with a traditional form of dance.

Our RE sessions will focus on the big question: How do Rites of Passage shape the lives of different Christians?
