Principles and Aims for Splitting Year Groups

We are a small village school; our small, family feel is a strength. We have six classes but there are seven year groups in any primary school and so it is inevitable that at some point cohorts will need to be split for at least one year. They will also always come together at different points along the way. Our teachers are experienced in differentiating for the different ability ranges and we plan our curriculum carefully to ensure coverage and quality learning. The governors have agreed a set of principles and aims when splitting year groups:
