‘Pure mathematics is, in it’s way, the poetry of logical ideas.’ Albert Einstein

Mathematics equips pupils with a uniquely powerful set of tools to understand and change the world.

These tools include logical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and the ability to think in abstract ways. Mathematics is important in everyday life, many forms of employment, science and technology, medicine, the economy, the environment and development, and in public decision-making.

Our mathematics curriculum at Aston follows a mastery approach. We try to teach the subject in a fun, practical way. We use the Power Maths programme. We compliment our curriculum with Mathletics which is an online fun resource and selected pupils are also able to access Conquer Maths via our early morning maths club.

Each year we offer a range of additional opportunities in this subject. For example, our highest attaining pupils in upper key stage 2 have the chance to participate in Mathematics Master classes at Henry Box and are entered into the National Primary Mathematics Challenge competition. For pupils who may need additional support, we offer small focus groups and the opportunity for extra lessons with our popular Early Bird tutoring scheme.

Here are the calculation methods that all schools must use now with the new curriculum:
