Sports News - June 2017

After the mad rush of May, June was a rather quieter month for sports. The only fixtures we have had for school games were in the cricket league. Our first game was against Ducklington. Both teams scored a similar number of runs, however, we just gave away too many wickets leading to a defeat.

The next game was against the mighty Batt School. We took 5 wickets away from them with Harvey and Charlie getting 2 each. The match was still close going into the last over. Unfortunately we just couldn’t find the wickets to take runs off the hitting machine that was the Batt school. Sadly this meant we lost our second match.

Our 3rd and final match was against Witney CP. Both teams gave away few wickets. Aston were a little too hesitant to run after hitting the ball, whereas Witney weren’t afraid to go for the cheeky single run. There was only a couple of runs between the two teams after 7 overs. This basically meant a head to head bowling match between Harvey and his team mate for his school. The difference was Witney CP took 2 wickets from their last over, and despite Harvey being inches away from the wicket on more than once occasion, we just couldn’t take any to knock vital runs off their total. This led to another defeat.

Despite 3 defeats there is certainly some cause for optimism in the team, our team was very young compared to a lot of the teams we played against, only ever having 1 year 6 in the team, this will mean that next year we will have more experience and will be another year bigger and stronger!
