Sports News - May 2017

May turned out to be a very busy month for us with several school games tournaments taking place. We sent teams to both the year 3&4 and 5&6 quad kids athletics competitions. Our year 5&6’s managed to finish 7th place out of all the schools in the Witney partnership with Charlie earning enough points for a Bronze award. Our year 3&4’s managed an incredible 2nd place in their competition with Olly earning a Bronze award and Irene a Gold! This meant we qualified for the next round which meant a trip to Carterton on a very windy day! This spoiled any schools chances of fast times in the runs. After some amazing performances including Violet jumping further than any other girl in the competition we managed to finish 4th overall.

Also in May we had a couple of tennis tournaments. Our year 3&4 team managed to win 2nd place in our qualifying tournament, earning a space in the Witney partnership finals. After some very hard fought and close matches our team came away with Bronze medals for a well-earned 3rd place, beating many bigger Witney and Carterton schools in the process. The year 5&6 team went straight into the Witney partnership finals. Despite taking possibly the youngest team there (all 4 were year 5’s), our captain Barnaby helped inspire us to 2nd place, only just losing to the Blake School in the final.

May was also our Sports Day and Games day. The children were challenged in all sorts of sporting tasks on their games day, from football to archery, netball to boccia, the children certainly worked up a sweat on a hot Wednesday morning. The day after this we had our sports day races, helping things to run smoothly were our year 6’s (when they weren’t running themselves!). The children sprinted, hopped, concentrated and tried not to stumble over lots of different races. In the end once all the children had cooled down with a well-timed ice lolly, the dust settled and the winning team was Griffin!
